Is my attempt to work anime/novel canon into his manga portrayal not working out? Did we read something differently?

Basically, there are two official spellings:

Production I.G.: Vin Argiano (makes his whole name a wine joke, which is appropriate for his elitist French image and since he's working for Cinq Flèches, who produces Chateau Duel)
blood.tv: Van Argeno (most common in fandom)
U.S. DVD release: Vin Argiano
U.S. novelization/manga release: Van Argeno

.....Yeah.

Whoever did the fairly recent overhaul on the character section on Wikipedia ended up just combining the two names into a compromise as "Van Argiano", which I don't exactly agree with, but...

a) since "Van" is so much more common in fandom, I'm not going to throw off all the other characters by changing it, and
b) I can't bring myself to completely discard the wine joke that his name was intended to be by using "Argeno"

...I'm going to roll with it. :|

[The sound of a chair being pushed aside can be heard as Van stands up; his French accent is noticeably heavier than usual when he speaks, his voice anxious and eager]

Yes, that's right.

[A long silence as he receives the news from the imagined woman in the room and takes it in; when he speaks again, there is clear disappointment in his tone]

...Ah, is that-- I see. W-well, is there any chance I could speak to Professor Eiston myself, then? I really would like to hear this directly from him, you see, and the opportunity to personally express what I hoped to accomplish through my work is something that I believe would--

[Pause]

Oh, of course.

[Another silence, followed by a forced laugh and a thinly veiled facade of politeness]

Oh, yes, yes. I understand.

Well! It has been an honor to speak with you again, Miss Silverstein, and I thank you for your time and your consideration. Please do give the professor my warmest regards.

No, thank you.

[A moment's pause as he watches her leave the room, then he lets out a bitter chuckle. The cellophane rustle of a piece of hard candy being unwrapped can be heard; the sound of the candy clicking against his teeth is barely audible as he mutters under his breath.]

Well. That's how it is, then.

[ooc: reliving the time Julia DENIED his science project or lab assistant application or whatever, setting him on a path of forever hating American universities and science bitches. idk either, the novelizations are weird.]

Only forty-eight hours, but quite a stir nonetheless. How unfortunate, Lord Charles, that your friend missed his much sought-after reunion with you by less than a month.

My, how interesting. And what might have provoked a sudden influx like this?

It wouldn't hurt you to keep it down just a bit though, would it? I rather dislike having my thought processes interrupted unnecessarily.

Let's see, then. This opens up new options for ways to spend my time, although I'm still sadly unable to do much in the way of research here.

What does one do here when he has no obligations?

One of my favorite days of the year, if only for the fact that everyone is so generous with candy. They could certainly do with more discriminating taste in the flavors they choose to hand out, though. Orange. Cherry.

Ah, but I should have expected as much from the fine citizens here.

I hear there's some sort of party tomorrow, then? Much more Solomon's style than mine, I'm afraid, although given my utter lack of creativity when it comes to such things as costumes, I suppose it might be for the best for all of us.

I can't say spending a day as a rodent was particularly pleasing, although I must admit that it was rather exhilarating having to put so much effort into working my way through a single piece of candy.

Perhaps this was supposed to teach me to treat my little lab rats better in the future.

Inconvenient, and not particularly sanitary.

I rather wish I owned a suit in a color other than white.

Well, I suppose I shouldn't complain about finding myself somewhere else under the circumstances, although I can certainly assure whomever is responsible that I had a perfectly good plan for my escape.

I would naturally appreciate any knowledge on the technology used to bring me here if possible. Not my area of expertise, perhaps, but I'm sure the information would be fascinating and useful just the same. Of course, my return should really be top priority. I'd rather not leave my little experiments behind without the opportunity to observe their performance.

I'm sure you understand.
